It has been a very long time since my last posting. 1st semester of final year has been a very hectic semester and my final exam has recently just ended. Exam period was, let’s just say it got me into thinking of many things.

It is common that most people live through their life without much thinking and reflections while some reflects too much. But once in a while, things happen in such a way that it makes us think, and it is in this exam period where a mixture of stress and adrenaline got me into thinking things that one would normally ignore.

What i was thinking wasn’t really a revelation or enlightenment, but just that i was more sensitive and more observant to small negligible matters – human ethics and behaviors. How frequent do we really think if what we do is actually right, in the shoes of others?

As early as our childhood, we have been exposed to what is termed as good and what is evil. It was more of a general acceptance of the public of a made-up standard to draw the lines between good and evil. And thus, we adhere to what is generally acceptable to avoid being condemned. But is that the true definition of good?

No comment. As like the answer to what makes people laughs? Many sceintific researches and theories arises but all remains ambiguous. In other words, what is good in one’s opinion may be evil in another’s eye. Yes, life is one huge joke where we live on with so much uncertainties.

In real life, some may go all the way to practice what is considered as good while some doesn’t give a rat’s ass on whether what is done is correct or wrong. Some did things that they thought are correct while some commit evil deeds with a conscious mind, which is worst of all type of people, in my point of view.

But the worst part of it all is – things done are infectious. Like butterfly effects, one deed is enough to trigger responses and reactions that may either balance out the deed or enhances the effect. In other words, what one did and behave is in fact very significant.

So my point? Nope, nothing much. Just that many people got my attention recently because of thing they did and how their behave. Some earns my respect, some got me all annoyed while some even amuses me. One questions that always pops up to my mind is, “Why do they did that?”, or to be more precise, “WHY LA?”.

The one thing that comforts me though is that once in a while there will be a natural balancing reaction when the chain reaction reaches a certain state and likewise, some particular action to upset the balance when it is achieved. Nature.

To sum it up, i would be best that we do realize what we are doing and that to understand the logic that we shouldn’t not do things that we doesn’t want others to do to us cause life is like a cycle of actions and reactions. That way, the world we live in can definitely be a better place.

All and all, life is most of the time unexpected and that changes in a society is almost like evolution; time-wise.The effort to make changes is just way too resource consuming. But the one thing we can do is that we choose the way we live life and inspire. I’m so glad i do have people around me that does thing that i respects and on the other hand, pity those who live their life bringing misery and spreading hatred to others. :)

Craving for Mooncakes

I am prone to get hooked up on new stuffs and hobbies real fast and the recent subject of interest is Mooncakes! Yes, mooncakes – those round little smooth sugary pastes wrap up in dough of all sort of attractive shapes, are what caught my interest recently. As the mid-autumn festival draws near, those mooncake manufacturers have already start selling their products although it is still one month plus away. As I have never bought and really care about mooncakes in all my life before, I decided to do a little exploration this mid-autumn.

Staying in USM has left me not choice of place for shopping, and thus I was left with little choice for mooncake brands. I decided to try my luck at Billion in hope for a good deal. So I was laid with a few choices of mooncake brands, that is Oversea, Kam Lun Tai, Hei Yuet Thong (not sure about spelling) and baker’s cottage. There were 20% off for Oversea and Bakers and only 10% for Kam Lun Tai, but if I buy 4 KLT, I get a Nyonya flavour Mooncake for free. About HYT, I’m not so sure… :P

After some deep thinking, I decided to buy Oversea’s Noble Delight and Golden Starlight and KLT’s Pearly Jade Delight and Black Sesame with 1 yolk. Not sure about my choice at that time too, there were so many choices. SO, without further ado, let’s get on to the tasting part!

Haha… I have to apologize on this one, ate it straight away I came home and forgotten to take any snaps on it, manage to find its pic on net though. Its paste is quite delicious, not purely of lotus paste but a mixture of Huai Shan, Pitaya fruit, lotus, and white bean. One can definitely taste the lotus paste, but with improvisation, mildly sweet, smooth and just a perfect mix of ingredients with the right proportion. :) :) :) :) :)

aiks... after eating oni thought of snapping...hehe, guess the stomach signal reaches my brain the fastest

Oh my god, chaos! Ok, maybe not dat bad… The combination is bold, yet not so harmonic. Paste is made of lotus n pandan… erm… not bad, but tasted like kaya pandan. Then before the yolk(non-egg)  is a layer which I guessed is some sort of rice paste which have jelly or gelatine and also the layer which spoils the whole mooncake taste. Apart from that, the nut is getting in my way of chewing… Overall, not bad but not so tempting as it names suggest. :) :) :)

Erm, can definitely taste the lotus paste, but the sesame layer is quite thin that I actually find difficulty to distinguish it from lotus paste apart from its colour. Not bad…Yolk is there…lol… nothing much different from normal lotus paste mooncake :) :) :)

Golden Starlight – haven’t taste…haha. Next Update maybe…

So after tasting three of the mooncake, I came to a hypothesis that branded mooncakes are not so mighty as their fame… a rather rash conclusion.. so I decided to sample more. So I went shopping for mooncakes at Jusco, 1U and found more brands such as Six Happiness, Hotel Equatorial, Yu Ai, Bisgood, Foh San, Thai Thong and many more mouth watering brands of mooncakes. The fancy packagings are so eye-catching that at some point, i was deciding to buy choose the mooncakes manufacturers based on their packaging! lol

yet another mcake flavor which i'm after... just cant get it anywhere - all out of stock...sigh

But alas, i was running out of time, so I decided to just buy a pure lotus paste Mooncake from six Happiness and another for my friend (cant reveal the brand yet for secrecy purpose…lol). Will be sampling it in the morning, later :)

Till next post.

Sunday, September 6, 2009

I woke up today when N call me at around 11 am and decided not to resume my sleep since I have yet to do many assignments and works. My body kind of aches due to inappropriate sleeping postures, or either due to me sleeping at 4 am today. Yesterday was a very busy day, however none of the things I do was assignment related, lol.

Yesterday I woke up in between 11am – 2 pm. I wasn’t sure because I was like half awake, do some chores then fall back asleep. Recently I have been mutating into a pig, for I have been sleeping at random hours frequently, and eat more than usual… :P . However, yesterday was filled with chores, most of them were to tidy and clean up my room which has been in a mess for more than a month… (guys room ma… :P ).

So basically I did laundry in the morning, tidy up my room and do some mopping in the afternoon, and finally take my lunch-dinner at KFC with G at around 4. Lu-nner, Dunch? Its considered tea maybe, lol.

Anyway there were new menus in KFC in conjunction with the festive season, Hari Raya. I and G decide to try out the Shrimp Stix Combo as it looks tasty and worth the price stated. Value for money (VFM)! In the illustration, the Shrimp Stix looks bigger than the drumstick (looks bigger in the ads printed out and hanged at the restaurant as compared to the ad on internet…forgot to take picture of it…sigh, check it out yourself next time), which is very worth the price… or so we thought until our food arrives. MANN, the stix is as small as a mini cocktail sausages, or even smaller! Sigh, conned by ads again, lol.

Notice that the Stix is as big as the drumstick

There you go, "drumstick size" Stix.. ya rite!

But the stix tasted good, crunchy on the outside and smooth on the fillings of prawns inside. We both order a mixture of original and spicy flavour for the two piece of chicken and as for drinks, I took Rose syrup while G took Pepsi. Well, it was a  nice meal overall except for the point that we do not have enough of the stix and that original flavoured fried chicken still tasted so terrible and oily at this Parit Buntar branch. Get some quality control man!

After a short detour to Watsons for some product, we headed back to hostel fast as I am going to a vegetarian steamboat at C’s house. There was nothing much I can do back at hostel and before I know it, it was 8 already and I went to C’s house with Y. There were a variety of vegetables and we dig in right away. Lucky thing I was late, supposingly it starts at 7.30, but you know, parties never start early! Hehe. Only a number was present as most of our course mates were back at home. Never mind, it means more shares of food! Lol. After steamboat, we have Barli (Cooked by C – and tasted good!) and I cook the remaining veggies with Y, which is also not bad except maybe a little too salty (coz I added all kind of flavouring and essence…:P)  and strong burnt garlic smell.

Basically, party ends at near 12 and I went back to do more chores before falling asleep. Basically it was a tiring day but there is no worry as there is nothing a good sleep can’t fix!
